Selecting the correct photopolymer resin for SLA, DLP, or LCD 3D printers requires balancing mechanical end-use demands against printer hardware capabilities. Choosing a generic resin often leads to failed snap-fits, warping under heat, or poor layer adhesion.

Always verify the Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT) if parts will be deployed in thermal environments, and confirm whether your 3D printer operates at 385nm UV (industrial DLP) or 405nm UV (standard MSLA/LCD).

1. Evaluating Key Mechanical Properties

  • Tensile Strength & Modulus (MPa): Measures resistance to stretching and rigidity under static load (e.g. VAMSA ABS-01 vs ABS-02).
  • Impact Strength (J/m): Critical for functional snap-fit enclosures, protective housings, and dropped components.

  • Liquid Viscosity (cPs): Low viscosity (<400 cPs) flows rapidly across the VAT for high-speed printing.

For foundry investment casting, zero-ash burnout resin (<0.003% ash residue) prevents pitting in cast metal prototypes and fine jewelry. In digital dentistry, Class IIa ISO biocompatibility is mandatory for direct-print denture bases and night guards.
